Edit a footer in InDesign
Working with the master pages is necessary when editing a footer in InDesign since headers and footers are usually applied to master pages to ensure uniformity across different pages in a document. Here's a step-by-step tutorial to assist you in editing an InDesign footer:
Open Your Document: Select the InDesign document you wish to modify.
Access Master Pages:
Open the "Pages" panel by selecting Window > Pages.
To make changes to the footer, double-click on the master page that has it. These are usually called "A-Master," "B-Master," etc.
View/Hide the Guides:
Make sure your guides are in view. Choose View > Grids & Guides > Show Guides to reveal or conceal the guides.
Choose the Footer and Edit It:
Select the text or item in the footer section that requires editing by clicking on it. If there isn't one existing, you can add a text box or any other needed item to create a footer.
Modify the text or object:
Once chosen, you can change the footer area's object characteristics or text. To edit text, use the Type tool (T) and to change objects, use the Selection tool (V).
Make Modifications to Document Pages:
Any modifications you make to the master page's footer will also be reflected on all document pages that are connected to it.
Return to Document Pages by navigating:
Double-click the page symbol in the Pages panel to get back to the pages of your document.
Items on the Override Master Page (Optional):
You can override the master page to make page-specific modifications to the footer things. In the Pages panel, right-click the page and select "Override All Master Page Items." This enables you to modify specific pages in a unique way.
Conserve Your File:
Always hit Ctrl+S (Windows) or Command+S (Mac) to save your changes.
Keep in mind that any modifications you make to the master page will appear on any pages that are linked to it, giving your document a unified look and feel. Use manual overrides for particular pages or several master pages if you need different footers on separate pages.
